A Cost-Effective Distributed File Service with QoS Guarantees

چکیده
Large-scale, value-added Internet services composed of independent cooperating or competing services will soon become common place. Several groups have addressed the performance, communication, discovery, and description aspects of these services. However, little work has been done on effectively composing paid services and the quality-of-service (QoS) guarantees that they provide. We address these issues in the context of distributed file storage in this paper. In particular, we propose, implement, and evaluate a cost-effective, QoSaware distributed file service comprising a front-end file service and back-end (third-party) storage services. Our front-end service uses mathematical modeling and optimization to provide performance and availability guarantees at low cost by carefully orchestrating the accesses to the back-end services. Experimental results from our prototype implementation validate our modeling and optimization. We conclude that our approach for providing QoS at low cost should be useful to future composite Internet services.

Integrated resource allocation scheme for real-time video multicast
For providing distributed multimedia applications with end-to-end QoS (Quality of Service) guarantees, resource reservation based control mechanisms should be employed in both of networks and end systems. In this paper, we propose a resource allocation scheme for maximizing the user’s utility, which is represented as relation between benefit obtained through allocated resources and cost paid fo...
متن کاملQoS-Based web service composition based on genetic algorithm
Quality of service (QoS) is an important issue in the design and management of web service composition. QoS in web services consists of various non-functional factors, such as execution cost, execution time, availability, successful execution rate, and security. In recent years, the number of available web services has proliferated, and then offered the same services increasingly. The same web ...
متن کاملA Framework for Experimenting with QoS for Multimedia Services
It has been recognized that an e ective support for multimedia applications must provide Quality of Service (QoS) guarantees. Current methods propose to provide such QoS guarantees through coordinated network resource reservations. In our approach, we extend this idea providing system-wide QoS guarantees that consider the data manipulation and transformations needed in the intermediate and end ...
متن کاملA Framework for Cost-based Connection Admission Control: Issues in Traffic Shaping and Policing
We propose a minimum cost method for traffic shaping and policing in the context of quality-of-service (QoS) based networks. Given the user's desired QoS and the network's resource availability, our procedure determines the least-cost parameters for a traffic shaper or policer which still guarantees access to the network whilst satisfying the QoS constraints. We illustrate our scheme using on-o...
متن کاملA distributed algorithm for resources provisioning in networks
Internet is a network based on IP (Internet Protocol). Routing between its independent subnetworks (domains) is assumed by BGP (Border Gateway Protocol) which uses IP. There was no need for QoS (Quality of Service) guarantees when these two protocols were designed and these guarantees aren’t integrated in Internet. Today, the expectations changed. The introduction of new applications, like voic...
